Even the most stringent laws against the use of electronic devices have exceptions for close range 2-way radios. Why? Because in some situations, THEY ARE REQUIRED BY LAW! So which law are you going to break, the one that says you must be in communication or the one that says you CAN'T be in communication? The law recognizes the fact that it is safer to be in communication with those around you, and that prohibiting this communication decreases the overall safety of everyone on the road.
Close range 2-way radio communication won't be banned...not unless or until there is something better in place to replace it. -

And they keep adding more complex infotainment systems to trucks, with ever more buttons to find and push. Yet that's all less distracting than a watch or a cell phone or a CB? Hardly...
