I was not talking about Landstar.

I was saying if the other companies pay 80% of crap rates it's not worth it.

I don't think I'd want to pull a refer at Landstar.
Could be like flats though where the real money freight is never seen.
For the risk, and hassle, I don't see it.

Reefer freight pays more than van freight in general (depending on circumstances of course.)

Of course sometimes there's a lot of hassle that comes with it also.

There’s plenty of good reefer freight at landstar..... a lot of hazmat stuff that never hits the board. Plus if you put a van load in a reefer you still get the extra percentage....

Going with a one year lease. A few dollars more but we did not want to commit to our own truck yet. We try to stay in new trucks to avoid breakdowns. We don't like the aggravation that comes with breakdowns so we try to avoid them as much as possible. Like everyone else I guess. At the end of the year I figure we will be in a better place to make a more long term commitment on equipment. We are also looking at leasing the trailer which would be $800 dry and $1200 reefer a month. On both tractor and trailer we don't have to worry about service or repairs. All covered in the lease.

It seems to me that at $800 a month, you are paying for service and repairs. Just not at one time.

I don’t know how far you are on it but, I’d highly recommend getting their new A26 motor. I have it in my International and it is doing outstanding.

I bought a reefer trailer over a year ago and have done well with it at Landstar. Winters are the big money season with all the protect from freeze liquid hazmat from October to April, and it is usually quite light. Ran hard 6 months straight and when i stopped to take a few days off from exhaustion the agents blew up my cellie. A previous poster said the best PFF freight never hits the board. That is correct. The agents call you and you never run for the price they ask. I always get more. The rule of thumb is if you call me you're gonna pay me 20% more. $4 or $5 is the norm, sometimes up to $7. The rest of the year can be hit and miss. There is Florida produce season which is from late April until June and it is always heavy, then it moves up to southern Georgia. Most of June has been good out of Nogales and central California. Carry your passport and be able to go to Canada. There is some really good paying freight out of Houston to Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and freight to Montreal always pays great. I have a reefer load tomorrow out of Tucson going up to Rancho Cordova, CA paying $3,983 for i think 875 miles weighing only 1,800 pounds and is 30 degrees. Easy peezy 2 day load. After that i gotta load from Sacramento up to Moses Lake, WA for almost 5k, and then up to Edmonton. Still negotiating that one but there are many Edmonton loads out of Washington state. The last time up there i booked one for 8k out of Washington in the dead of the nasty winter. Might only get 7k now because it is nice weather. We'll see. Gotta tell you i have lost quite a few great paying dry loads because they won't load a reefer. Wasn't much of a problem at first but lately it has been more frustrating. So you may have to deal with that.
