Expected pay for 2nd year?

If you run on a bid route with linehaul you will run the same run every day until the next bid. The smallest linehaul route I have heard of pays about 60k the highest while being home everyday pays around 110k.
Linehaul drivers that run the system are essentially regional drivers. Count on being out all week but depending on needs you could make it home during the week. I know most system drivers make 90k - 130k a year.

Not that I'm aware of all the LTLs run day cabs, except for teams. When you lay over you stay in a hotel, company paid off course.

 

Yes the majority of linehaul is night runs, day runs do exist but like the runs that pay over 100k the higher seniority drivers take those runs. Everything varies by terminal I run out of a smaller terminal and we only have one day time run, I know our break bulk has multiple day time runs. For me it was a change going from a 1st shift job to nights but we have all gotten accustomed to it I actually see my kids more now then I ever did working the first shift job. For me the main difference is not sleeping with my wife at night during the week. But all in all my family is fine with it, as I said they see me more now then they ever did before not to mention the massive pay increase. Going from 50k to 80k is no insignificant raise.

 

The original post question is interesting, when I started driving in 1977 I was paid 25.25 cents per mile and that was high pay back then. Now 41 years later I guess the average pay is 50 cents per mile. Then I think minimum wage was 3.25 per hour, now it's what 7.50. My point is I guess driver wages haven't even kept up with the rate of minimum wage workers. I would think the average worker 40 years ago was working for 4.00-6.00 per hour if still working today at a skilled job would be making what 20.00- 28.00 per hour.
The one thing about truck driving is the pay doesn't change much, a first year driver makes about the same as a 10 year, 20 year ,30 year driver. it's not like companies give a driver an annual pay raise and you sure ain't ever going to drive more than one truck at a time and there are no promotions.
With todays structure of this this industry and controls of driver time and profit I don't know why any body would ever get into this industry. With the first improvement in the economy in decades young people are fleeing the industry and getting their jobs back at the old factory where they were laid off and old timers like me are fleeing as well saying the hell with every move they make being controlled more than a prison inmate. When to drive , when to sleep, when to pee in a bottle, when to eat. etc. .
I read somewhere there are 30% less drivers on the road in May of this year than just last May.... and you still can't find a parking space, or a decent meal to eat. The good life sure ain't in truck driving any more today than it was in the past. GOOD LUCK with your new career
