ASKING FOR A FRIEND--CLEARANCE LIGHTS...

If the light is there, it must work. Only required to have the minimum, but if you are a rolling light show, every one of those 99 million lights must work...

 

Find a flatbedder and ask to borrow his ladder to fix your light. He might even lend a hand.

 

Wrong. Read the regulations. Only the required lights need to work.

 

Actually that isn't quite right either. The regs say you can't be ticketed or given a csa violation for extra lights not working. But everything on a truck is supposed to work. So it's one of those things that you can put off till you get back to the shop next week. Another one is the city and air horn. The regs say the truck needs a horn, it doesn't specify which one of if both must function, so if one goes out you can wait till you are back home to fix it.

 

Sure it is correct. The regs specifically says all lights (non-required) do not have to wark. Untill you can provide a reg, or even a single state law that says all lights required then you are simply repeating truck stop counter b.s.

 

Read the section about annual inspections. Again, you can't get a ticket for it, but that doesn't mean things don't have to work and can be left broken for years.

I had a problem with marker lights in TX once.... Picked up a load in WA down to TX. I walked around the truck at every fuel stop and when I hit the crappy TX roads I noticed two marker lights at the rear of the trailer wiggled loose. two of three. I plugged them back in and kept going.

150 miles or so down the road I get pulled over... LEO gives me an inspection and reassures me there will be no points as he hands me a failed inspection because the two marker lights came unplugged again... Whatever, I just signed it and let the company know. They had someone send in a dataq and had it removed.

You can get a ticket or failed inspection for whatever a LEO thinks is just. Fight it if you know better.

 

It's why I like bare crimps with shrink over them, the problem is over.
