Single tarp is 2ft too short.

Grab you a cheap 12x16 tarp at any home improvement store. While you're at it, grab a 10x12 or 8x12 too. They come in handy for those "it will almost cover it" loads. And they don't take much space in the box either.

 

As a general rule I never tarped anything that sat outside untarped.

If it was shiny, greasey, or finished, it got tarped if not= nope .

 

10/4 what he said ^ and those small tarps are great when you have to get under the truck or trailer in wet conditions!

 

If you got lots of spare time at the truck stop you could grab an old tarp cut a 2 foot piece off and sow it on the existing tarp or just buy another new one.

 

I actually have the flaps off my old lumber tarps, two 8 x 8 pieces, they have saved me throwing a second tarp a ton of times, plus when I get a single small crate they save throwing a 4 footer.

 

Harbor Freight or Northern Tools or some place like these, have a selection of low cost tarps. They come in handy for doing end caps or small items you dont want to pull out regular tarps.

Small tarps are good. Since I often leave tarped loads at the yard for another driver to deliver, it's not always an option.

If I get paid to tarp a load I tarp it and I tarp it right. Sometimes it sucks but life isn't all peaches and cream.

 

I'd cover it with my smoke tarp. I would also verify with the shipper that they want it fully covered or not. If they say they don't care, I'd annotate it and drive on

 

At most hardware stores you can buy a tarp stretcher. They’re like $10, same isle as the paint and wire stretchers. If they act confused look for them near to the synthetic blinker fluid.
