One of the hardest things getting people to weld up a frame...the inside weld pulls it in....the outside pulls it back...if you do it right....it takes practice.

And it generally looks worse before it looks better.

The guy who really mentored me as a weldor always said,
"Only a fool skips a back weld".
It took me a while to figure out what he was trying to tell me. Part of it was doing the job completely and the other part is what you're talking about. You can pull a lot of bow out of a part with a good back weld.

Was just talking with a friend I used to work with. He has a shop running four lazers, some press brakes, and welders. We've been trying to hook up. Just called and has to go to Nebraska. He imports those little two row test combines so see in the fields. Wheat harvest is gonna start and he has to go work on one.

Funny thing is we follow a songwriter out of Minnesota. The guys best friend works for my buddy.

We're gonna try and stop by his house on the way back from vacation.

    Wintersteiger's by chance?

They make some of those little test combines in Haven, Ks, about 17 miles SE of town. Two of the guys that worked there started building test plot planters on their own. It has become quite the little business for them. The engineer (who is a good friend of mine) and I built the first test plot drill for the company. Now, they sell as many or more of those than the row planters.

I'll tell ya....the night Waylon died my wife was gone somewhere for work but all my kids was home......we sat back here at this bar and listened to every recording I had from the man.....

If ya ever get a chance read his book....alot of ya probably don't know him and Cash shared a apartment in Nashville. If you know the whole story you know Jessie Colter has a free pass to heaven...
