The test is straightforward but precise. Study your state driver's manual.
The fingerprinting and background check takes awhile to get back but it too is straightforward

This is the toughest test in driving that I have ever taken.
It depends highly on correct terminology that matches your states laws.
Study your states guide on it. If you can't find it online. You can pick one up where you test.

I took and passed HazMat and Tankers tests today (Montana).

The only prep I did, besides the TSA BG check, was online tests. (I didn't use the tests on TR, as I kept getting a scramble in my UI on android, which I never was able to get working correctly. I used TC.)

Online practice tests were the only prep I did, and i did better than expected.

There were a few questions that covered material I hasn't seen, but common sense and logic took care of them.

    No sweat.

    Thanks!

    Actually, probably nothing. Yet. :p

I had driven to Great Falls in mid May for TSA bg check, then got a local job hauling bulk wood chips, bark hog fuel, sawdust three days later.

My plan is do this local bulk gig for a year or so, when I'll have just about 2 years CDL xp, at which point I'll start trying to get a regional gig hauling to gas stations.

I hauled to gas stations for awhile. I loved it. Got to know folks and it was like a real job!
Sounds like you've got a good steady plan going.

The huge bucks in the patches sounds awesome, but I've just heard so many horror stories. Lots of guys from where I live have been in and out off the Bakken field. Boom, layoff, rinse, repeat.

I left OTR because I love my wife, our dogs and the view from the kitchen window. It's worth a lot to me (and costs me a lot) to have those things every day.
But without those things, well, life's just no good.
