I am a little nervous about returning to trucking again. As some of you know, I've been asking about 'good' companies to drive for.

My first experience with trucking wasn't a good one. For one thing, I started out with the wrong companies and didn't really have a good team driver. (He was a gripper about anything and everything) I didn't know better. I did run solo for a little time.

I gave up on trucking altogether. I got in to that 'job hopper' whirlpool, as tip mentioned before in other posts on here. That is one way you won't get on with a good company.

So I said to heck with driving and left my team driver and moved back to my hometown and I found a local retail job.

My job is ok, but my pay is low. I have decent benefits their and like the company I work for. I'll be at that job a year in November.

I still have my interest in driving a truck. (I do enjoy driving the truck - Shifting the gears, etc)

I am looking to return to trucking in January. I planned to stay at my job till at least next January. I want to gain that 'job stability' so I can get on with a good company. I’ve been reading the posts on here and I can say I’ve learn a lot on here. Thanks Guys!

I’ve been looking at Crete, Rohel, and Davis Express - a smaller company that’s closer to me.

I am nervous about going to the orientation. Come January, it will be a year and a half since I step out of a big truck. My skills are rusty (shifting, backing, etc) I would be nervous about the test, such as the backing test and driving test. What if I don't pass all the tests?

I know my back ground should be fine as I don’t have any felonies, etc. My driving record is decent, only a speeding ticket in 2002, and an over width and logbook tickets in 2005.

The only accident which I was at fault was a minor backing accident in 2005. I also had one where my team driver was injured where another big trucks drive shaft came loose and went thru my trucks windshield on I-81 in TN in 2005. That was a ‘non preventable’ accident.

I have a copy my DAC and it’s not listed on there. I will list it on my application anyway.

I am just a little nervous about leaving my job and going back out there. I’ve been researching companies to find out whether their good or not. I just don’t want to end up in the same position with just the only clothes on my back.

I believe I am a safe and reliable driver for any good company. I wouldn’t do anything stupid in my truck (or even my own car) to harm anybody. Grant you, they are a bunch of people on the roads that shouldn’t be.

Thanks for reading my long post. Your comments welcomed. :)

Hello don't be it is not bad. I just started back three weeks ago and I love it. As far as companies Crete is good I worked for them before I stoped driving. The pay is good but the home time is not so good they like for you to stay out for three or more weeks at a time. I am with Werner Enterprise for the second time now and I love it and the pay is still good and the miles are there to run with them. Werner offers a lot of dedicatied runs if you are in the right place that will get you haome more. You should check them out I like it here. They have the paperless logs and I love it they are so easy to use. Werner has refer, flat bed,and dry van to choose from. Wish you well on your choice and be safe out there.

There's nothing wrong with being a little nervous about driving again. I'm also a little nervous after being off the road for 5 years. It'll help you keep your guard up. You didn't say if you still had your cdl or not. If you still have it you may have to take a refresher course since you haven't driven in over a year. That will help your confidence and take the rust off shifting and backing. If you have to go back out with a company trainer at least you know what to expect this time around. Bad trainers are just the luck of the draw and something you have to expect and be willing to put up with until you go solo.

I still have my CDL. I've talked with Roehl back a few months and they said I would have to go with a trainer, which isn't a problem.

So you do like the paperless logs?.....Was wondering and waiting to hear someones comments about it....the only one I've read so far was from a driver very dissatisfied with it.I thought ...hummm....might not be a bad idea would sure keep a company from forcing drivers to drive over hours.....tired , exhausted, irritable.... Or running more then one log book. Just to stay on good terms with dispatch and not have to sit for days waiting for a load. I think it would suck if you were 20 minutes away from destiation and your over hours by 5 minutes and have no choice but to stop....or take the violation. None of us would do that intentionally, take the violation that is. But theres so many companys that burn out there drivers. So....glad to hear someone say it's not all bad

I've been toying with the idea of getting back on the road. Probably won't though.

My 2 choices for companies are Rohel and Crete....Wish me luck when I start applying to them in December.

If it wasn't for this forum, I'd prob give up totally on trucking. I am looking forward to driving again!

I am going to apply to Roehl Transport.

I won’t submit my application till around mid April. I will keep you guys on here posted on what’s happening, etc.

I think I might have a chance as I have been at my current job for over a year, as that should gain leverage to have a opportunity to sign on with them.
