I havent gotten a big truck stuck before, ive had a flatbed six wheeler stuck a more than a few times delivering horse feed. While walking the ground is a great idea, its not 100% reliable. Some times ive ran thru 4" of 'mud' in a pasture with a good hard pack underneath it and have buried the truck in grass that was firm up top to walk on but very soft a few inches down. Weight on the drives is a big deal. Loaded is better than empty as far as traction.

Ya, the mega-carriers tend to want to blemish your DAC whenever given the opportunity. I have had several instances in which I have had to argue the point with the fine people at "Hireright" to keep my DAC clean. Once you get bit by the snake you tend to not want to pet it anymore!

Walking the ground can be deceptive but is a start. Use a probe to feel what is under the top soil. Gravity/sloping terrain is your friend. Loaded is better traction but also much harder to pull out, sometime impossible. Proceed with caution and make sure you have a back up plan. Like any equipment in the area capable of retrieval or

in some cases.

Did you just get stuck? or did you mash on the throttle and tear stuff up?

Uh, are you aware that you're replying to a post from 2012 and the OP hasn't been on TTR since 2013?
That being said, it's a bummer you got dinged for an accident. A lot of trucking companies will charge you with a preventable if you got yourself stuck and required a tow to get out. It's crappy but that's the way it is.
