How to find loads?

Owner Operators use load boards. There are some free ones, and there are some that require a subscription to access. you can do an internet search to find those. OOIDA has one for its members. You can use the search criteria of the board, to narrow down the type of load you are looking for. Each load will have a contact number. You call the number and talk to them. If you don't have access to an MCA number for the load booking, you are wasting your time. If you're a company driver, I doubt your company is going to share what loads they have.

 

Are you asking as a broker, or a carrier?

 

If you are a new carrier with a new MCA or DOT number, you will find most brokers will not work with you. They want an older authority, in most cases about 1 year. You can however, work with a private dispatcher ( for a fee) who can deal with them as many of the private dispatchers know the major brokers and can covince them to give you the load. I ran across this when I started with my own authority. Swift-old authority and driver has 6 months experience. You-new authority and 30 years OTR experience; Swift gets the load.

 

Incredibly inaccurate. There are very few who won't work with a new entrant. A new MC will have no issues finding brokers to work with. They can also pick up the phone and get their own customers direct as well.

 

Did you try it? Get a new authority and call and easily get a load. Don't tell me that-been there and done that.

 

I did. Landstar, mercer, coyote, JB hunt, Bnsf. I could go on. I think Schnieder was the only one that wanted a year, I never did sign up with them. A new entrant will no doubt run in to brokers that wont work with them, but there will be so many more that will.
