How old are you?

Wife? Kids? Why do you need to be home? That probably wouldn't happen for at least a year. But probably worse in the Air Force.

 

From what I hear the military isn't paying at all just giving out paystubs saying IOU...

Make your truck your home and you can be home at the end of the work day. lol I actually have what I need for staying out for extended periods picking up supplies as needed at grocery stores or large malls that we deliver too. I also take a few days off in a hotel if I don't drop in on family. Still, there are many companies that do get you home every night. Both local and Long-Haul will run your butt ragged though trying to get the most out of you so being home every night might look better than it feels. I like staying out and roving the landscape to a point and then the girlfriend is about ready to burn my CDL and hobble my feet. She's been a trooper this past year though. Getting back West from elsewhere is becoming a pain once I roll over the I29/I35. Freight migrations are ever changing though.

 

There's a saying in trucking. "You want to be at home OR make money. Cause you can't do both." "If the wheels aren't turning then you're not earning."

To begen with you will have to be away from home for 2-4 weeks at a time. thats the way OTR works. Most local companies (99.9%) won't hire drivers with less then 2yrs.

 

I beg to differ. My son in law, I don't know his rank, but he's enlisted in the Navy, and spends half the year out in a submarine, raked in about ten grand more than I did last year, and I've been with my company ten years and making top pay.

 

The military is not giving you iou... there still paying. Or they just gave me free money. lol

 

They better pay #### good to put my sorry ##### in a Submarine for half a year.

No not all trucking jobs leave you on the road for wks at a time. A OTR job will.

I got out of school and started do expedite work for the oilfield and I may sleep in my truck 1 or 2 nights a week and that is a lot.
