    I'm sure the engine isn't the best. But it is still being made for more than ten year's. It can't be that bad. Just hoping somebody has something constructive to say

    It's not the most powerful motor. It has about 435-455ish horsepower. I've been driving one for the last 3 years and I've had no problems outside of basic mechanical maintenance. You have to baby this particular truck. Get some Lucas Oil Dpf deep cleaner at the truck stop. It's very useful for this particular truck. Its about 60 bucks. Get some fuel, let it sit for about a half hour then roll with it. It will clean out the entire exhaust system and give you some power. I've noticed a difference. I buy it at least once a month. Try that to start.

    Have the charged air cooler check out for leakes, will rob power and fuel mileage.

    i honestly can't tell you a solution but I will say this - there is a reason why you get the truck on a dyno and see what percentage of the rated hp the engine is producing before you even consider buying it.

    I just hate to see you and others go through this.

    As a company driver, I went through about seven of these trucks in as many months. Finally got a 2013 that did pretty good.

    585k in six years is about 97k a year, typical average for an OTR truck. You might have actually gotten a good one. I would highly recommend changing the DPF and DEF doser nozzle if it hasn't already been done, or as someone else has mentioned here, do a delete. Just keep in mind it's a hefty fine if you get caught "riding dirty".

    Also, these trucks are known for flaky end harnesses at the headlights, so don't assume you have a bad bulb if one stops burning.

    Wouldn't be a bad idea to have a spare key hidden somewhere on the frame. For some reason, I was always managing to lock myself out of these trucks.

    One other thing I remember from my days with these things. A few of these had a tendency for the air valves to work loose from their mountings in the dash. One or two, the dash mount itself actually broke. Plastic truck, plastic dash... LOL

    It is junk, just hoping to get six month's of work out of it. So i can put a cat, engine into it!
