The Valvoline Restore was a temporary fix that Cummins worked with Valvoline on to specifically give them a temporary fix during the warranty period. Customers that complained about oil consumption would get this first. If it addressed the issue then the hope was it would get them out of the warranty period without having to do a rebuild. Customers that were out of warranty and complained and sought goodwill would get some financial assistance (called "POLICY" use this word when seeking help. "POLICY") for this oil change. Usually around 50% of the cost. The idea is you do this oil change ONCE and leave the oil in for one normal oil change interval. You then go back to your normal oil again. If the issue comes back you then do this again. The idea is that this is a chronic issue but it is not "mission disabling". The oil consumption is not due to a broken part, but rather the side affect of a poorly designed cylinder pack. As a result the DPF will plug prematurely from oil ash. I believe that Cummins considers oil consumption of a quart every 500+ miles OK. You won't get help. If sooner than maybe. The point is, seek "POLICY" assistance if you have less than 500K miles. If you are the second owner, then they probably won't help you unless you bought Cummins Encore used truck warranty. This is also a good thing to buy if you are having issues, is to get your dealer to sell you used truck warranty and wait a bit then file a claim for high oil consumption.Remember you have to be over the oil consumption limits and less than 500K miles or have extended coverage or they won't care.

This is complete BS and you're just spreading hearsay CH 19 information. Check out Cummins TSB 150163. The Valvoline is a repair option for those out of warrant and Cummins admits it doesn't work in all cases if customers allowed too much carbon packing for too long and it ended up scoring liner wall. For anyone in warranty, the Valvoline deal is NOT a repair option or a step in diagnostics. If we confirm the complain is valid, the engine gets overhauled!

Isn't disgusting that Cummins will sell a poorly designed pos that under their maintenance guidelines will be lucky to make it to 700k before an overhaul or ventilating the block while saying a quart every 500 miles is acceptable .
I didn't buy their BS when in the mid 500k range mine was using a gallon every 1500 miles on bulk oil on 30k drains .
I switched to rottella 15 40 with a gallon of Lucas at change time and cut the drains to 15k and consumption jumped up to a gallon around the 7500 mile mark .
At 628k now and it's running good ...but I'm not planning on a million before an overhaul .
Cummins should have recalled these dam things and should be ashamed of themselves .
Ill run mine till it has a major failure and overhaul it .JohnSmith69 and Cat sdp Thank this. -
were dose the oil go to wil go down into the dpf filter and stop it up... -
Exhaust smoke is a mix of gasses, soot and ash. When oil is consumed (burnt), some of the additives in the oil become ash. While soot and the gasses can be converted/burnt off in the various aftertreatment components, ash cannot. It accumulates in the DPF and gradually reduces its capacity. This causes more frequent regens due to less filtering capacity in the DPF. Eventually the DPF must be removed and cleaned/replaced. DPF cleaning is considered normal maintenance but excessive oil consumption will cause ash to accumulate much more rapidly and reduce the interval between cleanings.

And coolant that’s burnt will make a kind of concrete in the dpf ...... and can’t be cleaned out.

So with these engine issues, it says synthetic oil is obliviously better to use to make this problem not happen, but other question does it have anything to do with BRAND of oil?

failing pumps, cams issues, these issues seem to be frequent, that's to bad, I used to be a fan. Had to pass one up recently.
