As of today my contract is up with the mega carrier I signed on with my plan is to have dispatch route me to the nearest terminal where I can turn in my rig. Being that it's a mega carrier and it takes 3 months to train a replacement so I elected to not turn in a two week notice. I've already have 2 other offers lined up for a local position out of Gulfport, MS and I had an interview with Saia yesterday. I guess my question is how would you guys leave a mega carrier? I'm just trying to get out the door without them saying I abandoned my rig.

    Smut Thanks this.

Document all correspondence concerning your resignation. Take pictures of any Qualcom messages that you send and the company sends to you. Send a message stating you're resigning and where do they want you to return the truck; take picture of that message.

It is always the proper thing to give a 2 week notice, you wont burn any bridges by giving proper notice and following through on that notice.

and like @Chinatown mentioned, document everything

Take pictures of the truck as well to make sure that they are not going to come back and say you had an accident with it or have stolen anything. Document everything, and play nice with them. No need to burn bridges...

edit: if you have time I would also say to give the truck a decent cleaning, no need to have the next driver clean up your mess. If there is anything wrong with the truck letting the mechanics know would be helpful as well...

Quit during your home time, like others mentioned go to terminal manager, have him sign a document that states you returned truck, and whatever other company issued equipment at said terminal in satisfactory condition

APU hasn't worked in months, I'll be sure to write down everything that's wrong with the rig.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

In an ideal world, it’s always proper and professional to give at least 2-weeks notice...

In trucking, just get out while you have the chance with your record intact. You give a trucking company notice that you’re leaving, you’re really rolling the dice. They could leave you out a month without routing you home, shut off your fuel card, put you in risky situations to where you’re more prone to an incident or service failure, etc.

If you have no desire to ever go back there, just quit while you’re at home. No sense risking anything for a company you’re done with. You wouldn’t be the first and certainly won’t be the last, they’re used to it...

Call them up and tell them you going to quit and ask them where they want their truck.
You don’t have to give a 2 week notice to a mega company.
