Look into Ltl companies dock-to-driver programs. You will earn while working on the dock but the schooling will likely be on your own time.

I know the old dominion one is not in SoCal but you can at least see what the position is if one becomes available in your area.
You may have to sign a contract with these companies but you will be driving right out of schooling earning over 20$/hr starting out. Large ltl companies are on the higher end of the pay scale. I can’t speak for odfl or fedex but at xpo there is no reduced pay for someone just out of school. You would get the same rate that an experienced driver off the street would get (21-22$/hr, mileage is high .50s maybe low .60s to start). You would be home daily for most of these ltl linehaul operations. -

whats a career center
is that a government thing? -
Yes, the Feds give grants to the states for a program variously called WOIA or WIA. These programs are administered through the state's unemployment office. The programs pay for vocational training programs for unemployed or under-employed workers. Sometimes the unemployment office will require you to get a pre-hire letter from 1-3 potential employers, especially if you have some hiccup in your past, before they will pay for your training. If you've used pot in the last year, don't bother. Drug tests are as certain as a sundown.

Yep, it's a little return on all those taxes someone paid, that now needs a new start with a career change.
