You back your brakes off, but if you have auto slack adjusters it can just tighten right back up as you use the brakes. Plus you render that brake useless.

Just do it right and cage it.

With 5 axles you can legally cage 1 brake. I believe the rule is 20% of your braking capacity.

I do it right. Don't pay for road service and you have to use brakes many times for it to adjust up again. I get to a good safe place to park, then put my overalls on and put a new chamber on. How do you do it?

On the big brake chamber, there are 2 air lines. One for the parking brake, the other for the service brake. If you push the red valve in, and you hear an air leak behind the dash, it's coming from one of the big chambers. Most tractors will have 2 big, and 2 small.

If when you push on the brake pedal, you hear an air lleak, pull down the hand brake, red valve in, yellow out, get out and listen...find the culprit and put a dime in the air supply hose to that chamber.

I might add..if you cage it and the air diaphragm is ruptured that holds the brake from setting up(or dragging) caging it just keeps it from dragging. Your still losing air pressure.

Tried a dime and does not fit. Thats why I use a small piece of rubber. Heard that dime thing for years..no fit.

If you've got a busted spring on the park side of the chamber good luck getting a caging bolt in there. Usually the piece the bolt goes into gets ####ed off to one side and out of line with the hole.

You can't replace the one that holds you brake off. Yes the other can be.
