When you get to terminal, walk in, hand them the keys. say " It's been real, it's been fun, but it ain't been real fun."
    Clean out truck.
    Amen.

The best way is to have home time lined up so they don't put a load on you.

Either way, just drop the bomb on them.

Too much stock put in the overrated "DAC Boogeymonster".

What the esteemed @Dave_in_AZ posted is more or less what I did. The DM I had got a phone call from me saying "I need to be back at my home terminal on this day", which was less than a week away. Didn't tell him why or give any other information. When I got back to the home terminal, I cleaned out my truck, got an inspection form from the shop, had one of the mechanics come out and verify there was no damage to the truck, and that it was clean. Walked into the office and dropped the keys and the signed shop form off on the DM's desk and said "see you never".

Zero impact on any job I've had since then.

Coover had The Best Answer.Never Quit during a load.Wait till home time or returning to base to get the truck serviced.Yes,not to sound "Paranoid",but Yes...Certain Dispatchers /companies have been known to "retaliate".It goes something like this" You tell ,them to pack sand.Few days later Werner goes to hire ya."England is saying "They asked you to Go take a Random, and you just up and quit? Have to go thru a SAP program to drive again.I dont think we wanna hire you? Ya,CYA. The key is you quit on a "good note". Do the exit interview."Oh,yeah it was great working here, its just Werner is closer,or any excuse to CYA.Im serious,Ive senn "Good Drivers",get screwed ,,,Bad Dac etc.JMO

In IT two weeks notice just makes it a hassle for the company you work for. The minute you tell them you intend to leave, you become a liability, and your account will be locked. So you'll spend your two weeks sitting in a chair twiddling your thumbs, wasting their money. Your admin login account has administrative privileges and access to data worth millions sometimes.

It was simple for me when I quit Swift. I was going on home time Friday anyway, and Thur. I got a call from my next company. Set up a road test, and when Monday rolled around I called my DM at Swift and told them I had personal issues going on, and would not be able to get back to work Wendsday.
Well, Monday took the road test, took a UA, and Tuesday I cleaned out my Swift truck and drive it bobtail back to the terminal with no personal items in it,
Told my DM I'm quitting and she said have a good career. Nothing hit DAC as far as I know.
Worked there 5 years, gave a week notice as they never plan more than a week ahead anyway, and left for my current job.

I gave two weeks to my last job. My terminal manager always did right by me, so I returned the favor. Local flatbed, so I broke in the new guy, ran a few extra loads, and spent the last day or two patching tarps.

I did hint that I wouldn't complain if they released me early in good standing, but no one took that bait.

At the mega I started at, my DM was amazing for the first like 6 and 1/2, 7 months.

And then for the last like 6 weeks he started just it was like he turned on me it was really bizarre. He started having me scheduled really badly, the one that the straw that broke the camel's back was they scheduled me for load that I couldn't legally pick up within my 14.

They had me do a two drop load in the morning and then I had to wait like I don't remember what it was like 6 or 7 hours for my pick up to get loaded and they had it scheduled an hour later than what the appointment actually was so I would have actually been over my 14 by the time I got loaded.

My DM wouldn't even allow me to discuss it with him he just over the phone he was just constantly yelling anytime I tried to say anything, he didn't want to admit his mistake. I told him I said you know I can't do this if you and the f****** load planners are drunk when you're doing your job I can't do mine.

    That was it for me.
