I would not say they hate the online business.

In 1984, Federal Trade Commission ruled on this and because of this, Funeral homes began switching to itemized price lists. They took the bite out of the casket profit. I should say, that most did. There are many that did not and when the online shows up, they have problems.

 

Yeah , they raised the price on everything else to make up for the loss of profits on caskets .

Is it an amount requiring placards ? If not , not much different . If you need placards you'll need a log book . You'll have to show your hours worked in the last 7 days and stay under 70 hours in 8 days . If you have 34 hours off before this run you can show a restart . You do not log any time in the previous 7 days as driving . That makes it simple . Hours driving a non-regulated vehicle are on duty , not driving . If you drove over 11 hours those days or didn't take 10 hour breaks it doesn't matter . You were not under FMCSA regulation . The only thing that matters is staying under 70 hours in 8 days and complying with HOS while the paint is on the truck .

 

So, now you are against free enterprise and the right to make a profit?

 

Ever hear of a funeral home going bankrupt ? It's one of the most profitable businesses there is . Too many local homes are selling out to national organizations . They are a racket . You have to buy vaults from the funeral home . Newspapers only accept obituaries from funeral homes and charge an outrageous price to add a photo to an obituary . You even have to get death certificates from the funeral home . I'm going to be buried in a Veteran's cemetery . No vault is required and the VA provides the marker .

 

After spending 20 years in the accounting department of a firm who does the books, collections and pricing plans for independent firms all across the country, I know an awful lot about this.

I have seen many go under. The biggest was the Loewen Group. They had over 300 firms.

Management affects them. Economy affects them. There are many people who do not pay for the funerals. What are they going to do, dig up the deceased.

There are different requirements for embalming, vaults and so forth depending on the location. Many cemeteries do require the vaults in order to keep the ground level. Vaults are sold through various methods. Some are part of the cemetery, or the funeral home. Most are separate companies.

Keep in mind, what happens in Kentucky, is not the world. There are issues in each state and I spent many days on the road in many of these states dealing with IRS and other issues.

As far as the industry, I do believe it to be highly over rated and over priced. But my opinions are based on much more information than what I have placed here or ever will place here.
