Truth. Recividism is greatly reduced with a strong social support system and the time consumed by a job that makes you feel you have some type of cause or purpose..... even if that purpose is 100% based upon selfish reasoning. (I edited out probably 160 lines of philosophy, to spare y'all..... but your purpose can't be 'to rob the place where I work'... malintent & purpose should not collude.)

Let us know how thngs turn out. Your first year or so won't be much fun and you probably won't make much money. That's normal.
Look at it like you're getting paid to learn. Don't let the company push you to do something that will get you tickets and ruin your driving record.
You've already figured out that some of the advice you get on TTR is good and some isn't. The difference will be clearer to you as you go along.
Questions? Ask the members. Between all of us there isn't any kind of problem that we haven't seen, dealt with, and solved. Tap into that resource. Use it.
    Good luck to you.

Would you like to know the reason this statistic is so high? Because NO ONE wants to give these guys another chance in life. If you can't find a job to support yourself then what do you suppose is going to happen? They resort back to criminal activities to just survive. It's a vicious circle that is perpetuated by people unwilling to give second chances. If you don't want to support prisons full of people then the only alternative is to train and provide jobs that people can actually make a livable wage on. No, I'm not a felon but I've known a few in my life. Some were bad apples but most were good people that made poor choices when they were very young and have grown up since then. By the way my Uncle has been a cop for over 40 years and he says the very same thing, he watches it happen all the time. Things have to change some and chances be given or this statistic will never go down.

maybe "some employers" gave such a second chance, and got burnt as well??

how many second chance offers do you expect someone to offer, if they get burnt at least once, if not twice, by trying to help out someone?

after the first time, i'd highly suspect those giving a second chance figure it ain't worth thier time AND money lost, on "second chances".

An ex con has a good chance to make it in trucking as long as they intend to be honest. Being confined in a cell is similar to long hours driving a truck. They can live in the truck, shower and eat at truck stops with no need to pay rent, utilities etc. Eventually move into a local job and get a home or apartment.

Not all people are the same, always going to have some that won't appreciate the opportunity given to them but I feel that's the same for people that aren' t felons. To use the once burned approach would be like saying I give up on all women because I had one cheat on me! Some men may do that but it would be crazy.
