Update: They forced my hand and I had to deadhead 700 miles back to the terminal. They sent me a load that picks up 1800 on Monday and drops 1500 Wednesday. I sent several emails stating that I could not deliver this load as my flight leaves early Tuesday morning, they still forced the load on me stating it was the best they had so I sent them a polite email telling them that I'll deadhead the truck back to the terminal which is where I am know.

For the record all we have is your side of this story. Forgive me but I never take anybody's story at face value until I have heard both sides. As to your situation. I have one very important question .Give that every other carrier out there is operating in a tight driver market, why did you not wait till you got on hometime to quit? This impulsive attitude gets drivers in cracks all the time. Now because you acted impulsively you put yourself in a position where you deadheaded a truck 700 miles out of route. I'm honestly not trying to bust your chops. OK this company screwed you? So fricking what? You want to take a guess how many times I've been screwed in my 60 years? The one thing you and all these other drivers had better understand. Patience grasshopper! What would you have done if during that 700 mile trip you were in a bad accident or had a health issue? Huh? You should have set those other carriers up with the understanding you were currently out and would have got back to them. Trust me, they would have still been there. You did everything wrong and if I could control it I would charge you for those miles and take it out if your settlement. Like I said I'm not trying to be a hard ###. Just saying there is no point in being a dick in your dealings with your current employeer. I know most carriers treat drivers bad. However returning that crap never makes it right.

Like someone said previously I'm just a number. I ask them to route me back to the terminal, they refuse, I took matters into my own hands. They have their truck back, I have my freedom, sounds like a win win to me and as far as me quiting on hometime, I was on hometime I elected to spend the holiday with my family, I earned those four days, I wasn't going to sit around the terminal for four days then quit. Unlike alot of novice truckers I finish my contract, I'm NEVER going otr again, and also I'm NEVER coming back to this company again so I really don't give a crap what they do. They're free to keep my last check if they want to, I'm free of them but thanks for the lesson though.

I I I. I'm not going to do this" I'm not going to do that. I earned this I earned that. I am not going to wait. Jeez I lost count of the I,s in that diatribe. I see you are finishing your first year and your finished wirh OTR. Been trucking a whole year now and you knowith it all. I hope the exciting world of whatever your headed to is great. Whwn you get there take a good look around. After you get tired of that I sure bet OTR will start looking good again. With your petulant and impulsive attitude your going to fit in nice. See ya in your next how to quit thread!

It's always one or two, you get a rise by arguing with people online. I thank you for your "vast well of knowledge" in the trucking world though and bid you good day.

You can bid all you want. Even though you won't admit it your a fricking know it all 3 week wonder. You betcha I'm more knowledgeable then you are. Not only in trucking but in life as well. The wall you are about 6 months from hitting is going to gobsmack you hard. I'm not trying to get a rise out of you, I'm trying to talk some ####ing sense into your hard skull. Go on ahead and blow what I'm saying off. It's OK I'm already the forum resident troll and bad guy.

One more thing. Drivers like you generally fall into 3 groups. The first and largest group are the ones that don't last in this business much more then 3 years. These forums are full of drivers asking questions about coming back after 3 to 10 years. Some never come back .The reasons are many. The next group are next largest one. These drivers listen to us older guys some after several gobsmacks. These drivers generally make it and have great careers. The last group is by far the smallest group. These drivers simply know it all and no matter where they land it is always the same. Their story is it is always somebody else at fault. It is this type that has to spend 2 hours doing employment histories because they change jobs every 6 to 10 months. This OP is showing every sign of being in the 3rd group.
