I would make a terrible company owner. I spend more time customizing and buying new trucks and no time driving them.

Deck > Friction mats > Bunks within width of coil (use more than two if possible) > Hardwood, beveled dunnage > Coil > Chains with edge protection with binders alternating sides, pulling back, then forward, then down

There isn't a "proper" way, as everyone has their own opinions (as all truckers do), but this is the way I do it.

This is the exact way many different flatbedders have explained it to me...

yet, everyone at Melton seems to want the friction mats sitting directly beneath the coil against the dunnage... I have yet to get a solid explanation as to why...

Yes, in American Truck Simulator, haha.

I've heard some shippers who do up painted and stainless coils don't want anything touching the product, including wood, but that's the only time I would put a mat between a coil and dunnage.

I have so many dang mats and sleeves I could always just do it both ways if the shipper wanted....

It’s the theory I’m more or less curious about...

Friction mats are meant to create friction and it would make sense to have them under the racks before the deck..

Yet, some people seem to think putting them perpendicular to the coil running lengthwise along the dunnage is the proper way...

Who knows. We’re truck drivers, ten different ways to skin a cat.

That's awsome. I remember when that Simulator came out. I've seen some guys get really creative on there and make some really cool stuff. That truck is awsome

S and k and a few others make you put it between the dunnage / racks and the coil. The coil can not touch the dunnage or racks. Even a mill roll.

I Cary felt to go there but they (SK) only allow rubber mat or your kicked out of the facility.
