I have to renew by CDL with hazmat and will have to drive 50 miles to renew my background check . Why ?? I can see updating the form . There won't be anything on there they aren't already aware of . This renewal is a ripoff and waste of time .
Why be fingerprinted more than once ?

As reported in Transport Topics 1/12/09 page 4, a task force established by the current highway bill has recommended 15 changes to commercial licensing. They suggest decoupling the fingerprint-based background check from the process of obtaining a hazardous material endorsement. The hazardous materials endorsement test is a knowledge test. It was not meant to be a character test, but mistakes were made after 9/11.
Drivers who need to haul hazardous or security sensitive materials would be required to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential only, eliminating other redundant background checks for these individuals.
The recommendations are being reviewed by congressional staff. -
The present system requires you to do one set of prints # $89.25 for the Haz Mat and then go to a different location (TSA Office) and apply for the TWIC card for another $ 132.50. Two prints, two locations, two fees, and all to one government agency.

if u have hazmat already you get a small discount on twic, it's not much cuz it's still around 100+. because prints and background arent redone, u paying for card basically.

we need a revolution in this country.. -
Why do we have to be finger printed after the first time. When you renew the hazmat they make you do it again. Did they lose the fingerprints? It is a waste of the drivers time, and money.

That's government my friend. Doesn't matter who's in charge, they'll find a way to waste our time and money....

They sent me a form to bring when renewing my license that lists all the CDL's in the past 10 years and the license number . I had a CDL 9 years ago in GA . I didn't know the license number . I call GA DMV and I'm told they only keep records 7 years . I bring the form to the KY DMV and in 5 seconds they bring up my GA license number on the computer . Everything they ask us they already know .

They just want you to go through the motions and cough up the $$$$$$$$....
