BRECKNOCK TWP., Pa. - Police are trying to sort out the events leading up to a fatal crash that closed the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Morgantown and Reading interchanges for more than seven hours Thursday morning.
It all began around 2:20 a.m., when a Hyundai Sonata lost control and flipped over in the turnpike's westbound lanes in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Three people were able to get out of the overturned car, and the drivers of a commercial vehicle and a Ford Mustang stopped to help, police said. That's when a UPS tractor-trailer slammed into the Sonata and the Mustang.
A 25-year-old Brooklyn man, who had gotten out of the overturned car, was killed; the Sonata's other two occupants fled the scene, police said.
Three other people suffered minor injuries.
The extensive cleanup and on-scene investigation by state police kept the westbound turnpike closed until about 9:30 a.m.
The seven-hour closure between the Morgantown and Reading interchanges created a backlog of traffic along the detour route, which included Routes 10, 322 and 222.

No UPS WILL be sued for lots.

I had to deal with the traffic once being broken down on a major freeway, made it to shoulder as far as possible, 4 ways and triangles out, called wrecker and it takes @ 1 hour to get them there but talk about seeing some crazy crap done by everyone, must have been a chain reaction because it felt like everyone was aiming for the truck or me while I high tailed it way off the road to sit and watch. Just wait for the automatic driving vehicles to become more used because humans are losing it quickly.

for the others to have fled, tells me it was a stolen car.
i can only venture to guess, the family of the dead thief, will get a good cheap lawyer and sue UPS for wrongful death.

The driver is not liable for some bystander standing on a interstate in the middle of the night. I'm sure he was driving legal on elogs.
