You will have to get a vision waiver. You will have to drive 3 years in state with no at fault accidents or moving violations including your own personal vehicle. After the 3 years, you can apply to federal. I have dealt with this waiver for the last 6 years.

I drove a truck when I was in my twenties. Hauled oilfield equipment then hailed rock. If you older people remember we were hauling way more then 80.000 in those days. I also now have my pilots license. This little kid makes it sound like driving a truck is some sort of big deal. It's a honest living but not brain surgery. When you press on the gas the trailer is coming with you. I guess I was just to stupid to know I wasn't suppose to feed my family because I had a handicap.

How hard was it to get the vision waiver? How long is it good for?

I got the packet off the FMCSA website.Search “Vision Exemption packet” in their search box.
It involves a extensive eye exam, and some other stuff.Just make sure you send the application back 100%,or they send it back.(I know). It takes them about 2 Months to process it.its good for 2 years, and you have to get a physical every year.

    Vmm215 Thanks this.

I think color blindness is a bigger concern.
