Firstly, I am posting this on behalf of my grandpa, who was a veteran truck driver probably about 15-20 years ago, but got out of the industry. He rejoined the ranks of truck drivers about 2 years ago.
Here is his story told by me.
He applied at K & B Transportation, they called and he got accepted, and they put him on a train to orientation in Nebraska.
He got there, and went through 2 days of orientation. On the second day they asked if anybody would have a problem driving primarily nights, and if so they would buy them a bus ticket back home, as most of their loads are overnight. After the class, he said he would probably not be able to drive at night all the time, he had no problem driving some loads overnight, but not the majority. The recruiter/instructor told him he needed get his items and get outside the property gates, at which point he said what about the bus ticket. The instructor told him that they were not going to pay for the bus and to get outside of the property gates. He asked about the $100 for finishing orientation, and the instructor again said I am not paying you ####, and get outside the property gates.
Anyways 20 degress outside or so in NE, and he had to wait for a cab outside to got to the bus terminal. He only when with $100, and so he could only get a bus to Chicago, where he was able to get my step-father to wire him some money. Anyways the cab driver told him that he picks up drivers from there all the time, and that its atleast 50 a month or something like that. The company is not that big, so its a big disturbing.
Hope I explained all that well enought. Anyways, sounds like this company is not worth even applying at so watch yourselves.

I was with them for 18 months, and had a great experience. Not to gainsay anyone, but I am sure that, as usual, there is MUCH more to this story...

if recruiters would explain more about the job or if more questions wore asked this might have been avoided. trucking unfortunately is a 24/7 job and driving at night is required it really erks me when someone says they can't drive at night. but hopefully he will find a job he can handle good luc too him.

Well I guess that they did me a favor by changing their mind on hiring me then. I was told no problem about the 21 and 16 year old dui's call me for your bus ticket tomorrow. After a week of call me the next day he finally levelled and said " Uh well they decided not to hire you anyway because of the dui's. Then hung up"
I was looking forward to driving for these guys because I had talked to several of their drivers while I was at Celadon. I heard it was an ok company to work for.
I wish I could have gotten the chance ....oh well -
I'm callin' Bravo Sierra. You know good and well (unless you are gullible and stupid) that they didn't just throw ol' gramps out on his ### without a good reason.

Well, there were 4 other new drivers who got told to get there crap and get outside the gates. One had a copy of his SS card, and the recruiter said it looked like someone changed a number. One failed his driving test(performed by a mechanic), and I am not sure about the other two.
Anyways, I understand its pretty hard to believe, but while my grandpa may have problems being happy with companies at times, he is not liar. Anyways, I am glad to see they don't treat everybody like that there.
My grandpa is leaving today for Prime, and from what I read, he should be pretty happy there.
Be safe all! -
Also the whole things about that, was that they should have mentioned that pretty much all their loads go overnight. Like I said my grandpa told them he had no problem driving at night, but did not think he could do it all the time.
I know when I was driving, no matter what around 2-3am I got dead tired, and would have to pull over and nap for about an hour or so. So I can understand why he would feel that way. -
if i choose to go with k and b the night thing will work for me thats the schedule i prefer to run. but the thing thats disturbing is that most companys are not consistant in keeping you running at night. but unfortantly we half to run to the customers needs. Which is unconsistant most of the time. These schedules are why there are more sick drivers out there and diabetes has become an epidemic in our industry along with bad food choices. Got to take care of yourself noone else does. companies my offer physical theraphist and weight rooms. but we half to take the initative to get in there and use these facilitys.

remeber recruiters are saleman for the company. Have a list of questions for any company you may goto work for. Get everything in writing. i have simple questions i ask a recruiter and they are straight to the point.
luvtheroad Thanks this. -
I hope he is going to prime as a company driver
