    MM,

I went to get commercial insurance for my car, and they wanted a 10mile radius stat every month. Ok it was for pizza delivery but heres what it can do on the negative side:

I was involved in an accident in 05 and I was close to that but i had not updated it and my insurance nearly went up. fortunately it was the same company and i was lucky.

The Choice Program is not suspended. "Hiring" for Choice is another matter though. They capped the number of folks in the program at 1000. The only way to get onto Choice, for now at least, is to lease onto the mileage (Legacy) program and run it with your name on a wait list to move to Choice. When a driver leaves Choice, an opening will be available to the driver next on the waiting list........

At least, that's the way they explained to me about three weeks ago when I stopped in the Charlotte OC. I've heard nothing about Choice being suspended altogether or plans to suspend it.

you are correct i phrased it wrong the progam is still there they are just not hiring at this time . i do power plus and was planning to go to the choice program in febuary as the girl i deal with in power plus said i would have no problem hiring on because of my good history over the last 2 years of moving their freight heres the piece from the website

Schneider National, Inc. is deferring its Choice-based lease option at the present time due to the overwhelming response and success in 2008. We continue to offer our long-standing mileage based option to qualified candidates.

The Choice program is paying pretty good. some of the rates are low, but you just steer clear of them. Mostly the hiring freeze was because they didn't want to flood the load boards with to many trucks and not enough freight. Personally I'm very happy they did this freeze. Also they have had to terminate a few IC's in the past week or so because they were running illegal with the HOS. In this day and age a person can not be doing that. I have been on the Choice program since Septmeber '08 and love it, no hassels at all!!!

The PowerPlus from what I understand is that you have your own authority and insurance and broker loads off of Schneider using their trailers. There is probably more to it and someone will chime in to fill in the details.

the choice program is good at 65% i don't think they are paying too much but many of their rates are very good. most guys are doing $ 1.60 plus and with their fuel discount and them paying the tolls and the fact that you dispatch yourself (not forced) it's a good program

the mileage program they dispatch you so you don't get much choice where you want to go which is no good for me

i do mostly local stuff on power plus and most of it is over $5.00 a loaded mile but i run alot of mt and bobtail miles. and there is not much work lately. when i started power plus i was getting 4-6 loads a week now it's like 5-6 a month

power plus is your authority, insurance, tractor and their freight, trailer.

it's tripleasing and after delivery you can use their trailer (rental) $15 a day for the first two days then $30 a day for days 3-6 then $45 a day after that , also if you don't have trailer interchange they only charge $3 a day for trailer insurance

i'd be happy to stay in power plus but like i said not enough work and the last couple of years it's getting harder to justify having your own authority with one truck anymore
