Had you bought your parts at TA, the parts charge would be at least double that. Plus your wheels didn’t actually fall off like this guys, so I’m guessing the shop actually did him a solid deal.
BTW, in the future, buy the Meritor multi-ribbed rubber wheel seal. They have been flawless for me and are far less likely to be installed improperly, which is most likely the cause of your warranty claim.

If your spindle is pitted, likely on older equipment, use the stemco seals that have the sleeve that goes over the spindle where the seal sits. Works wonders.
spyder7723 Thanks this. -
TA and Loves wouldnt touch that because of the spindle repair. They will do wheel seals, but if they deem the spindle needing repair, they stop all work and tell you to take it to another shop.

This is where a good story saves a mechanic's butt. 9 hours labour seems high but we have no idea if the guy had to call a mechanic out to chain up an axle or how badly the spindle and hub were damaged. It all takes time. Taking the invoice at what it says I can't see how 9 hours is justified.

So you should have no problem accurately describing the procedure to get the race off the spindle and pressing a new one on to us.

9 is a bit high. I bet its padded by 2 hours. That's how many of these budget labor rate shops operate. Go with a real low rate of 50 bucks and add a couple extra hours to the bill.AModelCat Thanks this.

The race is on the hub. A foot long punch, or extension with a hammer can easily knock it out and replace it. You really don't need to replace the race not unless there is noticeable damage. I just did a set of trailer bearnigs 4 days ago here is a video that might help explain it.

Lol....wait till you run into an aluminum Conmet hub.
Unless you tote an oven or 25 ton press with you, you're not gonna be very happy trying to install that race into the hubSAR, johndeere4020, stwik and 2 others Thank this. -
Easier just to buy a whole new steel hub. They’re about $250.stwik and snowman_w900 Thank this.
