Seems to me it would be better that they chose a day in the week to close and still leave the ability for those that work the other 5 days to have a day to get to the post office.

On the NBC Nightly News this evening, the story about this item indicated that a midweek day was being considered, with Tuesday being the only day explicitly mentioned by name. An individual interviewed for the story justified this choice of day by stating that Tuesdays were the lightest days because "most" people do not mail items on the weekends. There was no data presented to substantiate that statement.

They are correct.

The Modern Postal Service: Agency or Business?
Until adoption of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970, the U.S. Postal Service functioned as a regular, tax-supported, agency of the federal government.

It is revenue neutral which means it is supposed to make enough from the sales to provide for itself. The only amount from the the government is a supplement.

Take from that what you want.

But from the other side, you are a paying customer. Where is customer service.

But Sadly, I know what you mean. :biggrin_25510:

I'd agree with cutting Tuesday, if necessary. Most businesses post a lot on Friday which then arrives Saturday and Monday. Not many post on Saturdays or Mondays for Tuesday delivery.
