I have a trip tomorrow and I will have to go through I-80 and I-280. I will be at a very legal weight (something like 60k lbs total).
It may sound lame, but I am a local driver and I dread scales in general and wanted to ask if these like to inspect trucks and put them out of service, or are they just for weight enforcement?
Scales near East Moline IL?

Most of the time it's just a scale master. Check on the truckers path app and see if they are open. I came through that way 2 weeks ago checked the truckers path app when I left Walcott, Iowa and the east bound 80 scale was open but the 280 was closed so I jumped on 280 and took that into Illinois
ichudov Thanks this. -
I go through there every other day. In the last year, I have been inspected once, and that was a level 3 inspection.ichudov Thanks this.

I used to live in quad cities best to stay on 80 and bypass the 280 traffic. It’s no faster on 280.
-
you must also be asking for a friend too right.
whoopNride, nax and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
OK, that's great to know, thanks. What about the scales on I-80? Got any experience?
-
Sorry no, I’m sure others do. I presume you know there are scales at the state line on 80. Quad Cities is so big even some of the secondary roads are congested unless you go through at 2 am.
-
I cross those scales frequently too. They seem even less inclined to inspect than the Moline scales.ichudov Thanks this.

Why worry, if you are doing your job, you have nothing to worry about.

DOT is not your friend. Its best to avoid them, just like the police.
Heck, I avoid them if I can, even with 10K lbs in the box.adayrider Thanks this.
