Im not going to have a good handle on the kinda miles we are running for the month of Jan. Im going home for 4 days early next week and I had some problems last week.

First week was stellar and the 2nd week started off OK but then I sat for 2 days in Michigan waiting for a load... when I finally got one, I ended up sitting for 2 days in IL when I had fuel filter problems.

NOTE: Trainer told me if you buy fuel "way up" North in the winter its blended for cold weather... you need to "for sure" treat the fuel if you head North and got it in the South and treat it anyway if you got it mid-way up.

Alot of people had problems in the -20 degree weather and the TA I was at had 8 hour min wait. So while I had 2 filter changes, my load got re-powered.

Since then, I have been moving.

I am currently sitting waiting for my load home... I have it, its in Nebraska right now and meeting me here in Salt Lake. My last load delivered here in SLC this morning.

Im pretty impressed with the maintenence staff... Every trailer that comes throught the yard is inspected for issues (loaded or unloaded). They replaced a tire right there in the inspection bay...
After delivery I got my fuel filter replaced on the APU and the guys gave me new mud flaps, and gave everything a good lookover without me asking. No appointment needed, first come first serve.

I will get back out late next week and probably run 6-8 weeks before I take a break again. (BTW thats my choice to run 6 to 8 weeks)

When do you turn 21 years old. That is the minimum age that Prime accepts to be hired by them.

Prime is ok for the company driver. Don't buy into the lease operator contract. Stay company for at least a year, then look at the lease operator option.

Freight is slow all over. Short runs. But it's industry wide.

Prime's training is extensive for sure. The downside to all that training is the pay. But it's good training.

Go to a truck stop close to you and talk to truckers from different companies, pick their brains. Have some questions prepared. Talk to greenhorns/newbies and veteran truckers. Then make a decision.

Don't let anyone tell you that this is the time of year for freight being slow. Some of that statement is true, most of it is to the depression we're in.

Agree with you except the last paragraph. It is a known fact that from right after Christmas until mid to late February has always been slower in freight.

It's also a known fact we are far from a depression.

Recession, depression. Economic times are worse now then they were during "The Great Depression." What was so "Great" about the depression?

Recession or depression, you're spliting hairs. You call it what you want and I'll it a depression.
