I have an 06 vnl670 Cummings motor Eaton fuller autoshift. When I’m really heavy the truck Makes a grinding sound I’m first gear or reverse when i first hit accelerator. Last about a half second. If i ease on accelerator it doesn’t do it. I changed out one of the drive shafts thinking it was that. No change. Any ideas???

Dave_in_AZ and magoo68 Thank this. -
Throwout bearing on clutch or pilot bearing on flywheel.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Do you lose air presure, is the compressor running nonstop while parked idling under heavy load? Could be the air springs leaking on drive axle, won't lift/ hold heavy load at leveling height in idling mode low rpm, changes the driveline angle. It happens to hear grinding noise when leveling valve/rod goes bad. Just an idea!

Might be that Cummings motor giving all the trouble, try replacing with a CUMMINS.

Check the leveling valve on your airbags

Most likely worn out bearing slop. At 1.6M it Doesn't owe anybody anything ....time for a freshening..
