Hubby does. We got two converter boxes a while back (with the coupon thing). He put the one converter box in the truck and really likes it because it helps w/ reception as well as having the extra HD channels. Mind you, if you're in a hole where you don't have reception, you won't likely have it with that either... but it's not that expensive and is easy to hook up.

    d'kota Thanks this.

the assiciated press said that number is inflated because it doesnt factor in the people who already have one and haven't hooked it up.

imo: what is this coupon nonsense for anyway why cant we just be able to purchase the converter box for the price with the rebate without having to get the coupon??? then there would be no one to complain.

i herd something about how some tv stations in some states have turned off all analog signals they have to test the waters and havent herd of peple complaining much.

You don't need a special antenna, but you need a converter box or HD television. If you have an old tv, you won't get true high-definition with the converter box. You need one of the newer tv's with the proper aspect ratio.

I run with a converter box and hook it thru to a portable DVD player (Sony --> not all DVD players will accept the video feed).

If you have a Wifi data connection (and computer) get Hulu.

Even with you old TV your TV will look better with the converter box. Antenna is Freightliner (built into condo = antenna is the same)

I hooked one up to an LCD monitor that came off of an automobile entertainment system that my kids out grew. It was basically a portable DVD/VCR, and came with the detachable 7" LCD monitor that you could strap to the back of one of the front seats. The monitor had RCA plugs where you could plug up a playstation or xbox. I don't know if this set-up is "true" hi-def, but it looks pretty darn close to it to me.

No, it's not HD on that old monitor. If you've ever noticed on the newer tv's/monitors that the picture is wider? that is the aspect ratio high-def is in or 16:9. The older tv's cannot accurately project the resolution of HD and also cannot show the picture in the correct format. Sure it looks better than what you were getting with analog and is just fine for whatever you're watching on a small screen in a truck. But HD is unmistakable once you get used to it, and it's easy to tell the difference. Especially in sports broadcasts.

I like your resourcefulness, though, in digging up that old monitor and plugging the dtv converter box into it. A lot of people may not be aware that the dtv converter box is also the tuner, so you can use just about any monitor with RCA plugs to get tv.

full HDTV is 1080p. =Hard to get the smaller LCDs to do that. But a smaller screen has a denser picture = my Sony Dvd player actually looks crisper than your 32"-40" Lcd screen.

With HDTV any TV will look better. =It'a worth the upgrade. Each city you Goto you will need todo the channel scan (1-2 min).

this thing has the 16:9 aspect ratio. Football games come in crystal clear. The only downside is all the cables I have to drag out to use it. If my miles ever pick up again, where I can afford to buy something, I'm probably going to end up just getting a usb tuner for my laptop. I have an older non digital one that I used on my old laptop, but it will soon be obsolete, and I couldn't find vista drivers for it.
