Seriously, the DD drives better for m3. I've driven isx and n14s, too. The non variable geometry turbo, either the simple one on the early ones or the nonsymetrical one on the Evolution just don't have as many issues.
The early 60 series before EGR, drove about the same, but didn't have the low end driveability of a DD 15.Brickwall and Oldironfan Thank this. -
12.7 or 11.1 don't have the grunt of 15 litres. The 14 series 60 was introduced in 97 I think.

True. You can lug a DD15, but you better not do that to a ddec 2. I try not to let it pull under 1,400. As long as I keep the revs up, it works fine.Last edited: Jul 19, 2018
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
May I ask why not to pull down to 1200.?
I have ddec 2 11.1L. If I don't pull down to a minimum of 1300 while in the hill's, I have to wait for the truck to slow roughly 3.5-4mph before I can get to the next lowest gear. Eaton Fuller 9 speed. Engine is also limited @1800..Oldironfan Thanks this. -
You can cause liner to drop or main bearing damage. I'm not 100% On that though.Bean Jr. and singlescrewshaker Thank this.

Roger that. It's kinda annoying, but I'd rather not damage my money maker. So in OD I'd pull down to about 57mph @1400. Problem is @1800 in direct is only 53mph, so I have to coast down 4mph just a to get in direct. Then slow another 3mph or so because I don't want to run above 1700. Mental note taken..

Series 60 way cheaper to rebuild. Lots of aftermarket parts.
25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
I have no experience with the series 60. But I have driven the DD13 and DD15. In my experience the 15 is the best engine that I have driven. Especially pre-emissions. I used to pull hills 44k in the box like it was nothinng, and that was governed, driving for a mega. The rest of the truck was crap, but Id take that engine every day of the week and twice on Sunday.Brickwall Thanks this.

That's why a 13 speed is a philosophy that people need to believe in! 1,400, split down and bump it up to 1,700. I seldom turn over 1,700.stillwurkin, Brickwall, singlescrewshaker and 1 other person Thank this.
