Someone asked/inquired as to where I had read about medicinal uses for marijuanna. This type of information can be found in the IOM Report, (the institute of medicine) and from the NIH. (the national institute of health)
As far as sending you medical journals, etc. ; sorry, No. I am not a physician, nor do I have the resources to do this. I did not mean to offend anyone, nor would I reccommend anyone to use marijuanna or any other drugs. I was simply curious whether or not their were any substantial uses medicinally for marijuanna. (and apparently their are; though it seems much more research needs to be done in this and other areas.) As for myself, I quit smoking pot when I was 20 years old upon joining the U.S. Army and have never looked back. (that's 25 years ago for me) I am also an avid member of A.A. (22years of sobriety) I do not use any drugs or alcohol in any means. (to the extent that I won't even take an asprin.) As for the original topic of legalization. I am for it because no matter what you/we do or say; People in this nation are going to continue to use these drugs whether they are legal or not; and I for one think this nation should profit from this rather than spend on it. The bottom line on this issue comes back to individuals parental guidance. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN and stop putting the blame on everyone else when your kids start doing things that you know they shouldn't be!

Hey 1POD, don't you know that "illegal" is a sick bird? Unlawful is against the law!:biggrin_25525:

Well, I don't know about that statement, but I do know about the following:
This you are right on the money with. I've never had to fight someone on MJ to arrest them. I've had several serious fights with drunks who just were not gonna go to jail.
And DUI is DUI whether booze or dope.

While I have never smoked pot, (or done other illegal drugs) I agree with this poster. It is far past time that we stopped wasting resources in fighting MJ. It is time to legalize it, regulate it, and TAX it.

BUT, I doubt that I will ever live to see it legalized. There is way too much money being made on the situation, just as it is right now. On BOTH sides of the law.

It is obvious that the growers/dealers are making money the way it is right now. Much more so, than if it were legalized, and they had to abide by strict growing rules, and pay taxes on it.

But there is the other factor. The number of law makers, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers whose entire careers are made in this "war on drugs."

Then you have the misinformed public who believe that pot smokers are "the devil" in various forms. . .:biggrin_25513:

    Thanks for that! ROFLMAO!

I've almost drank myself to death a few times. I've never come close to smoking myself to death. And trust me, it wasn't from a lack of trying!
Yes it should be legal. Alcohol should be illegal in my opinion. Live in WI awhile and see what effect it has on society.
It still would never have a place in trucking. You cant drive with it in your system and it's ALWAYS in your system as a regular user. That whole 2 to 4 weeks thing is a myth. My buddy was in jail for 6 months, never smoked in that time and the entire time he was there he was still testing dirty.
COmes a time in life you have to grow up and make a decision. when I decided to be a truck driver is when I went straight. haven't touched it since except one time when my dad died, I smoked a joint with my sisters.

I believe Marijuana should be legalized. First, Marijuana was made illegal due to a racist agenda against Mexican immigrants. The drug was not criminalized due to health, increased crime, or social reasons. I won't expand on that, but if you do some research on why Marijuana was made illegal, you'll see what I mean.

Also, even through all these years Marijuana has been illegal, use has continued to increase. In fact, Marijuana is used by almost as many people today as people use tobacco. The difference is people who use Marijuana keep quiet about it, unlike tobacco users. Marijuana users are your teachers, your mail carriers, your boss, your co-workers, and your daycare workers. You just don't know it. Yes, some pot smokers walk around stoned 24/7, but many other will light up a joint at the end of a long day instead of having a glass or two of wine. Their choice to put it in their body. Some abuse it, most don't.

I saw the argument that Marijuana leads to harder drugs. There is no proof that the drug itself leads to harder drugs. In fact, the drug being illegal is most likely the cause. You see, when a High School kid goes to his drug dealer (who doesn't care about his age btw), the drug dealer says "Sure, I have pot, but I also have some Opium too. Want to try some?" If we had a regulated system, there would be strict age requirements and the people who buy Marijuana wouldn't be pressured into trying harder drugs. Think about this, when you were in high school, was it easier for you to buy alcohol under age or marijuana. Maybe it's just my local area, but I could get some pot by making one phone call. Getting alcohol was a bit of a challenge. Hmmmm.

But what about crime, you may ask. Almost all of the violent crime associated with Marijuana is not by recreational pot smokers. It is in the black market associated with profiting off of the drug. If the drug is legalized, there will no longer be a need for a black market. Violent crime associated with the drug will decrease almost to the point of it being non-existent. Don't believe me? Look at Spain. They have almost no black market for Marijuana due to their lax laws on growing plants for personal use, but extremely strict laws on selling the drug. In the US, over 80% of pot smokers who are in prison are there due to non-violent, possession only offenses.

I'm not a cheerleader for legalizing Marijuana and you won’t see me at any rallies. The reason I know so much is because I did an extensive research project in one of my Law Enforcement classes in college. The bottom line is what we are currently doing is costing this country billions and billions of dollars and it's not working. Marijuana use keeps increasing! However, tobacco use has gone down almost 50% in the last 50 years, and it's legal. Less than 20% of people in the US now use tobacco. Think about it! One drug that costs us billions to keep illegal and use has increase, while another drug which is legal has decreased in use and we actually make a profit on it! If we legalized marijuana, it would be the largest cash crop in the country. Actually, it already is. But all that money goes into the black market. Even if we just legalized industrial hemp (contains too little THC to get "high" off of), it would be the largest cash crop in the country.

Anyway, I went a little overboard in my post. Doesn't really matter to me much either way if it's legalized or not as I don't use the stuff (although I know many people who do). But if you truly want to decrease the number of people who use Marijuana, think about legalizing it. Keeping it illegal isn't working folks. Usage is increasing, it's costing us billions every year, lives are lost in the black market, and more recently, drug cartels are raping our national forests to grow their marijuana farms. If it were legal, all of these things would change.
