Incidentally, my truck is not governed by anything that isn't between my ears.... if speed limit is 75, I run cruise at 75. If I encounter a significant downgrade (either length or angle), I will reduce cruise to match and let engine brake do the work....

Pretty much identical on how I run my days except I normally run 65 to 70 mph and shoot for 650 ish miles a day, pulling flatbed.SingingWolf and Lepton1 Thank this.

After the last two days of being run off the road from super truckers trying to make 650 to 750 miles a day, I am thinking that the FMCSA should regulate the amount of distance a driver can go and put robots into the cab.
x1Heavy, Lepton1 and Aces-N-Eights Thank this. -
I thought you GTFO in 2011?

We have enough regulations.singlescrewshaker Thanks this.

In a full day drive, at posted/safe speeds, I typically average 600-700 miles in a day.... except for California....

Something that happened last week:
I arrived at a shipper less than 30 minutes into a fresh clock, but was there 6 hours before they started working(that left me with 7.5 hours remaining on my duty line IF I LEFT AT THAT POINT); so I went to SB status effectively 30 minutes after arrival. The work at the site was completed about 90 minutes later, so I stayed long enough to recover the unused hours to my duty line(10.5 to the drive line) and left. In the time I was on site, I actually managed to get some sleep.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
There are all kinds of things that I do differently. I don't have the same plan everyday. Thats where so many drivers go wrong. I drive my truck at 62 mph. I like to save fuel. Each load is going to a different place, so that requires a different game plan. I include major cities and steep grades when I trip plan. You don't want to waste time sitting in traffic in Atlanta for instance. That'll burn time up. That's something you can. Control so it makes sense to park somewhere for break, or start your ten around rush hour. Fuel stops is important as well. I typically go to smaller truck stops....never a line, never a shower wait. Some chains are better than others, but you have to know which ones are always busy.....here is an example....if I come out of Chicago going east, and I need fuel, I won't stop anywhere in Gary, IN. Over the years, I've found it utilizes too much time getting in and out and dealing with long fuel lines. The smarter thing to do is to go farther east, there is Burns Harbor which has the less congested TA or Pilot. K owing myself, I'd go to the Speedway farther east.

So, how long can you run on a fillup? do you fuel once per 11 hours drive time usually?
-
Usually. I typically just get the amount of fuel I need to make a run. I fill up on the big runsMBAngel Thanks this.
