Advice for soon to be flatbedder

    Im about to start with a 1099 small flatbed company as soon as the owner gets done with his current student, should be about another week. I need some advice from experienced skateboarders.

    Well first 1099 jobs are usually a bad idea, second read this forum there’s lots of people already asked the same question with lots of good information.

    I understand the risk of 1099s but unfortunately in my neck of the woods thats what most guys pay on. Very few owner ops or small companies around here pay on w2. The pay is decent it would be 45 cpm but with my high insurance premium he said he'd have to drop it to 35 till i prove myself

    The only advise I can give you is don't work 1099.
    You will be responsible for all taxes and be hit with self employment tax.When on W2 the employer pays about half of social security, now is on you. No workers comp unless you buy your own. No vacation or sick pay.
    Yes you'll make "more" until tax time and then you'll realize the mistake you made.
    Plenty of starters flatbed companies out there. Melton comes to mind.

    My aunts an accountant we've already sat down and discussed everything she told me she'll get me set up and show me how to pay the taxes and she'll handle my taxes all i have to do is save all receipts. Unfortunately with my lack of experience and past history i can't be too picky

    Try not to fall of trailer. Don't get hit by snap binder. Both hurt.

    I would highly, highly recommend getting your self a workmans comp insurance plan if your doing flatbed on a 1099 deal. All it takes is one fall and your career could be over.

    Google workers comp in your state. Rates vary a lot, so call around. With your job it will not be cheap.
