Some codes are normal like the 2023 - 3, but all those codes about loss of communication from engine controller, drive train message time out, ECM data link com failure, failed to receive PGN -1 are all the modules reporting they can't communicate with the engine. Under the "Select" table, at the bottom of the screen will be a list of "Detected Modules". Every electronic module communicating on the datalink will be on this list such as Transmission, shift console, Brakes - system controller, ESC and so on. Check to see the "Engine" is missing. This confirms the engine isn't communicating. The engine doesn't need to communicate in order to start and run. So since it shut down, I say it lost electrical power. So you should be looking at engine main and ignition power. I know you said he connected to it with Insite, but you have too many active codes for me to believe that.

thanks Heavyd, and you are right, he wasn't able to connect to insite. i believe the failure to communicate to engine came from a bad ecm, swap a different ecm and fired right up. Thank you, again
