I have been told by several old timers that have been around for awhile that yes you can use white out.

I always made a new page if, I couldn't white out the mistake without covering parts of the printed log. I am not sure as to there being a rule or not. No one said anything to me about my white out, and some days I used lots of it. :biggrin_2554: But like I said, I only used it if I could do so without covering up the printed part. That's just how I did it.
Most companies will give you a stack of log books at any of their terminals, so even if you screw up bad enough to make a new log page, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. But also make sure you use the SAME log book you screwed up in. Maybe write void on it, cause if you go into a scale house, you don't want to look like you're running two log books. :biggrin_25517: You might have to explain the void, and they might look at it, but, when they figure out your telling the truth, all should be well I'd say.

Here's the answer straight from the DOT website

Question 12: May a driver use “white-out” liquid paper to correct a record of duty status entry?
Guidance: Any method of correction would be acceptable so long as it does not negate the obligation of the driver to certify by his or her signature that all entries were made by the driver and are true and correct

I hate to burst your bubble, but (straight from DOT's webpage):

Question 3: If a driver’s record of duty status is not signed, may enforcement action be taken on the current day’s record if it contains false information?
Guidance: Enforcement action can be taken against the driver even though that record may not be signed. The regulations require the driver to keep the record of duty status current to the time of last change of duty status (whether or not the record has been signed). Also, §395.8(e) states that making false reports shall make the driver and/or the carrier liable to prosecution.

I don't know what kind of log sheets you guys are using but mine have a carbon copy and last time I checked white out dosen't work through onto the copy. Best thing I can recommend is cross out the mistake with a single line and initial it, that's if you don't rewrite pages. when you are using a stapled book and can't tare out a page just write void one it, remember your log is technically a legal document and will be used against you

That's why you have fingers on your hands. Lift the original and the carbon paper up, and use the white out on the carbon copy page. Duh
