Use a hd Wilson stud..You will be fine, been doin it for the last cpl yrs..I run a 7ft on my Cascadia for the last 3 yrs....NEVER a prob with stud...Now I wouldn't use a bird perch..HD_Renegade Thanks this. -
But if your resonance, impedences and resistances are where they should be 99% of the time swr will be good.. -
Yep I agree. All Im saying is a $20 SWR meter is a cheap thing to try before you can get with somebody with more sophisticated equipmentHD_Renegade Thanks this.

True but those trk stop cheapo meters are no better than whats in the radio..

How bout one of you smart dellers with lotsa antenna know how briefly explain to me how a antenna on the back of the cab but in front of a dry ox trailer can get out consistanly 50+ miles..
He says he pulls a dry box, runs a 655 or a 955 with a 2x8 amp and talkes to base stations all the time...He even pulled out a google map to show..What am i missing...
I know i had a 10k back there and didnt get no more that 10-15 mi..
Other than talkin to base station with tall towers n such and amp power, how the hell is he doin it..Or is he full of soggy do doo -
I would never advise anybody to buy anything at a truck stop other than fuel. I bought two good quality swr meters at a yard sale for $5 each and had a local elmer evaluate them, and that's what I use

Looks like you answered your own question. A 2x8 hitting 1800 watts or so and base stations sound easy. I talk to a few base stations at 50+ miles and i’m running some power, not near what he is, with a 6 foot skipshooter on a Cascadia mirror. I have one that puts me at 20db from 45 miles away. A set of 5 element beams 180 feet up tends to help.
