WiseOne's Comments, how in the hell does this happen? WHY were people driving so fast that this can happen...I seriously don't understand. This was UN-called for, period! Why are people following so close in snow? This just amazes me!

Cause they've got air bags, 4 wheel drive, front wheel drive and anti-lock brakes and no brains!

Actually unless you have traveled this piece of roadway on any normal (if there is such a day) time during rush hour you'd understand better it wasn't all about speed, air bags, 4 wheel drive, etc. It is heavily congested area, ramp system is not the best (in my opinion) and things just went from bad to worse.
9 tractor trailers were involved, 28 4 wheelers, 1 firetruck (who was the cause) and three people died (2 in a truck).
Had a firetruck roaming down the interstate going slow looking for an inverted vehicle in white conditions with snow falling at a very fast clip. The firetruck wasn't on the shoulder...he was hit by a vehicle that started the whole chain reaction. It took Indiana until 9:30 pm to reopen that stretch of highway that was closed at 8 am. That sums it up much better.
This was the first of two pile ups on the same roadway. 15 miles north another pile up of 15 vehicles but no one was killed or even injured.
That piece of roadway was closed for about 5 hours.

That part of the interstate has an accordian affect. The people in that area do not know how to drive, plain and simple. It is almost like they got their license out of a cracker jack box. I was about 40 miles south of there driving a truck on a state road. Everything was fine and dandy then out of nowhere a white out hit. I have driven through some snow before, but this one beat all of them hands down. I could not see 100 feet in front of the truck I was driving. The was a pick up truck about 300 yards in front of me. When this white out hit I lost him. It went on like this for 6 miles. I had a hard time trying to see the road. Come out on the other side of this system and the roads were horrible. I had my trailer try to pass me once and it was loaded, but it was because of my own mistake. Saw several cars in the ditch. The road I was suppose to take home was blocked off by police because of a wreck so I had to take a 2 hour long detour to indy to head back south towards seymour. Road conditions up there were only slightly better. While on I-465 I had a guy in a s10 chevy almost lost it trying to make a lane change next to me.

i would almost bet on it that some how, some way, they will find a way to put the blame on a truck driver whether he or she was at fault for it. i would put money on that one.
