Get an air card from your cell phone carrier.. I have one from Verizon and it works quite well. The thing about using wi-fi at the truck stops is that it's not secure and I'm sure you don't plan on being at a truck stop all the time. The air card is a lot more convenient. Wherever you have cell service you more than likely can use your laptop.

Go with the air card. More expensive, but worth it, when you pull off at the exit where the shippers supposed to be and they're not there, you won't have a wifi connection. Jump on Google, find the companies website, and use mapquest to locate them. And it's not that new. Air cards have been around for years.

They are pricey though. The card will run you about $100 and the service about $70. But, it's tax deductible.

One other thing. Don't trust mapquest, or any other mapping website for your directions. They aren't truck specific and you could end up on a road with a low overpass, or restricted to cars only. Always check the directions against your truckers atlas.

I use the Sprint air card. About 60$/month. So far its worked most everywhere I've tried it (except in the middle of no-where). I've had for years and so far they have honored the original unlimited data agreement. The current ones are only 5GB.

Me too, except I sold my old PCMCIA card on Ebay when I got a new laptop (it wouldn't fit) and bought a U-720 USB modem. STILL have my original UNLIMITED Sprint usage.

I'm using the Sprint card. I also have the unlimited service and it costs $60/mo. I guess I got grandfathered in when they changed to the 5 GB plan.

    It is sure worth it.

just be careful on how much you use it i ended up adding "use phone as a modem" to my plan with alltel $30 instead of $60 and it should buy pass the 5 gig cap limit

You can get better deals by bundling. Mine would cost me 60 a month, but with the bundle it is 40 a month and 10 bucks off my cell a month.
