$1.09 for a 47K pipe load from Bakersfield to Amarillo...no thanks...that's not even a cheap load...that's a load you pay the shipper to run.....

Wow, that's bad Ron. I hear Texas totaly sucks right now - You'd think the rate going in would reflect that fact. Obviously not.

Were it me, I'd be trying to piece together some ltl, to where ever it is you are looking to get to

If a guy could get .85/mile for 25,000 and half the trailer...times 2...it would be attractive.

But i dont have a skate, so I dont really look at flatbed freight.

Are you doing one pick with multiple drops, or are you doing true LTL with multiple picks and multiple drops? Just curious. Coordinating LTL is a pain in the butt at times when it is multi pick multi drop, but you are right that it is well worth it.

Mosly one pick, with numerous drops. The appointments are allready made. I can get as many as 9 drops off in Miami in one day, but it entails starting out at 2-3 am and going untill close of biz hours

In Rons case, I'd be looking on the boards for LTL to load. I say this with my own personal belief that half the trailer should ship for 3/4s + the reasonable rate. But obviously you gotta find more than one load like this and it will include more deadhead and OOR miles.

The fun part in "regotiating" with the people who need a few skids moved. LOL

That is how I usually operate, LTL can be a bit tough to put together, but is normally worth it. The problem is, is that there is very little of it out here right now. And if you do find it on a board, it is usually gone the second it is posted. And then we have the other LTL freight... I have been finding quite a bit that is actually TL being pushed as LTL. That I have seen allot of in the past few months, along with rates as low as .20 a mile. Not worth my time or wear and tear on my flat.

I have tried that route before...
You get a shipper who wants to put on say 30' of a load, pay LTL and then when you get there it's "hey can we add a few more pallets?" Call up the broker to bump up the rate and they act like it's pulling eye teeth.

Sometimes I think that brokers and shippers must think we're all idiots.

I'm sure you're right Ron. Obviously a little harder to piece LTL together on a flat, than with a reefer.

Oh, and just to give y'all a chuckle, I do peek at the LTL flatbed freight with hopes I can get some in my reefer. I hauled a bunch of Bobcat buckets and attatchment down to West Palm Beach awhile back. It was all on wood - how nice! LOL

You know they're making their % on those loads and the crumbs are left for the O/Os
