You've got a couple of trucks but have to come off the road for awhile to deal with things, but you don't want to shut the truck down. So you decide to hire a driver on a 1099, giving him freedom of load choices, as well as home time. What do you consider a fair pay scale to a 1099 driver?

If you have a couple of trucks why don't you pay new driver same amount as your other drivers?

This does not compute. Nor does 1099 pay for less than 33.3%

Why not rent / lease the truck to him for $500 a week.....he pays all repairs, and 70% of the load. That's sounds about right to me

Why not douse your house with gasoline and then play with matches?

60/40 split with fsc going to the 60%.

1099, contract them to do the job.

Let them decide what loads to take.

    No issues with IRS.

This conversation came up in a facebook group, i suggested a minimum of offering the driver 35% and no less. I was told hell no that was way too much, that anything over 28% when the truck averages 4600 to 6800 a week was being overly generous.

The owner does not want to lease the truck, he just doesnt want to pay for the drivers taxes and says so long as the driver meets specific expectations on gross revenue, the only stipulation is the truck must make it back to him every few weeks for preventive maintenance

I don't care how you figure it but I think considering there are no benefits 1500 to 2000 a week to a driver on a W-2 is about where you need to be to attract someone who is less likely to tear up your truck and care enough to not leave
