Well, when I had my ThermoKing unit installed, I had to find time to even get it into the shop for the install. I didn't have the time to screw around and put all of that stuff together. And the conveinence of the unit far outweighs the cost in my book. The darn thing works, and works well. And, it is very very quiet. I have heard those cobbled together systems, can you say LOUD! No thanks.

Well, I was quoted $10,400 for a ThermoKing unit last week by the non profit group that was mentioned in another post. I think I'm going to have to "cobble together" a unit with a frame mounted box and a diesel gen set, roof a/c and heat. My brother can build a nice custom aluminum box for about 500 bucks, generator runs $1500, roof unit $600, labor to install it all correctly - maybe $500, grand total - $3100, plus 10% for underestimating = say $3500. I have a 2500 watt inverter so thats a dun deal. That'll work.

The Flying J unit was made by Mechron Power Systems in Canada. They have been in the business for 40 years but service military needs. They service seven different militias around the world. After an honourable attempt at trucks they deemed it to not be in their interests and have left that niche to the rest of them.

Rigmaster and love it. Also have 22,500 BTU mounted on back wall for really hot days.

I have heard good things about the Rig Master until people needed service and they have gone under. But heard someone was planning on buying assets and providing service but when I was in the market could not get a new unit. Not that I would have bought one based on recent history.
