So I’m looking to add another dump truck and came across a 2004 T800 with a C15. It has 800k miles on it, I’ve done some research and I hear is run from the 2004 and up CAT. This truck is extremely clean and I think it’s a great buy at 30k. My question is could I put an older C15 in its place ? Will mounts and wiring match up ? Is there anything serious that would need to be done to make this happen ? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If its an MBN I wouldn't be afraid of it. My old man owned one in a tridrive log truck set at 475 and it was just fine. An SDP (late 2000's I think) is the one you want to strap on rocket skates to get away from.

Still waiting for dealership to send me serial number of the c15.
I continued looking at other trucks today and came across a beautiful 2007 KW T300 with a C7. What’s everyone’s thoughts and experience with these engines ? Only has 250k miles on it.
Could I get a couple years out of it and put a bigger motor in it like I was thinking with the T800 ? -
T300 is just a baby class 7 truck. Don't expect to get the durability or performance out of it like you would out of a class 8 truck.

I have a MXS that's been pretty trouble free for it's entire life, Only common complaint is it will go through turbo studs.
I've heard and seen other horror stories of Acert Cat's though. -
MBN motors can be ECM flashed and setup to run like a 6NZ. They make tons of power. And they are pre-ACERT which means no funny stuff. Their only downfall is they aren't pre-elog.

What is it about a 2004 and up are they saying run from?
The acert is one of the best engine CAT has ever built if tuned correctly. All engines have had their issues, but most of the people complaining of MBN clear up to SDP really either had bad luck or never investigated why they had issues and didnt wanna do what was necessary to correct it.
with the exception of the regen and emission problems and junk on a SDP, the acert were great engines. The 6NZ was OK, but there were plenty of those that were problematic with liner and injector issues, that doesnt make them better or worse than the other CAT engines of the period.pushbroom Thanks this.
