SCR SYSTEM FAULT

    I wouldn't do it. After a certain year (can't remember which year exactly) the EPA mandated that a DEF quality sensor be used. Put anything other than good quality DEF in there and the truck will know.

    Yup.. don't do the water trick ..it'll leave you stranded with newer models

    Thanks for the blast from the past! I was part of that group that did the DEF testing. We updated that testing in 2012 and it still worked. We proved DEF was worthless but the EPA didn’t care.

    Cumimns certified place says it is the harness that goes to the fan.a short on it.installed by peterbilt.

    But i have been doing some research it could be from not reaching out the proper temp to regenerate to a contamination by coolant,oil even washer fluid into the CSR.

    I seem to having thus issue. Took it to a shop and they played with some wires
    But after driving for 7 hours, the message and codes came back.
    Codes: 5394 fmi 14
    5246 fmi 16
    Also, it seems my def guage is stuck at full.

    Please help. I have loads prebooked to do. Cant afford a lot of shop time.

    5394 is related to the DEF dosing valve. FMI 14 states that the DEF doser or the def hose is clogged.
    5246 is the code related to derate. If you keep driving, it will become more severe from FMI 16, to 15, to 0.

    At about 1:00 of the video, they show how to remove the doser. I'm not sure what the best way to clean it is.


    I would also check the exhaust flex pipe that the DEF gets deposited into to make sure it's not getting crystals building up in there.
