Today's flight sims are pretty awesome. He puts his desk time to the test in the real world. The ultimate joyride.
I used to fool around with X-Plane back in it's infancy. Pretty cool stuff if you have the right setup and they've actually got it where you can play around just with a keyboard, but you need a powerful rig. Free demo download also available.

Minimum Hardware Requirements:
If your system is borderline, we encourage you to try the demo first. The full version of the simulator will perform exactly the same as the demo—neither better nor worse.
- CPU: Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 CPU with 2 or more cores, or AMD equivalent. (Dual-core CPUs slower than 3 GHz should try the demo before purchasing.)
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Video Card: a DirectX 11-capable video card from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel with at least 1 GB VRAM

I fly FSX Deluxe and cannot imagine trying to take a plane without authorization up into controlled airspace as this nut did without a plan and against orders etc.
If you don't bend it coming up off the runway, eventually you will need to come downstairs again as like it or not.
I did a little bit in a small plane long ago, enough to understand my bowling ball hands ruin the plane's ability to stay in order. I do much better with the old time VOR, DME, Maps and so forth on the radio stack in the right seat. We've taken a number of successful cross country flights with them.
9-11 changed all that. You cannot come up without a flightplan filed where we used to run. Too close to three major airports and a number of sensitive locations including Camp David which is barred to anything all the way from ground to edge of space.
This nutcase probably made a hash of the entire traffic in that region on his Joyride. What I must wonder is why no one detected any warning signs prior to his actually swiping the #### thing.mjd4277 Thanks this. -
Well it’s not the first time that someone with a screw loose attempted to steal a plane.

I would like to see the crash video and to know the circumstances of why it came down where and how it did. I wonder if one of the near rolls caused a fuel supply problem, ending the trip prematurely. I'm sure there was at least some irregular g's on the fuel level at some point and I'm not sure how they have the fuel pickups mounted in the tanks. I doubt they can float to "find a new bottom" if rolls and banks are not kept textbook.
Hah. I wonder what the observers on the ground were thinking? They had no idea what was going on at the time.tucker Thanks this. -
I guess based on some of the conversation released prior to the crash, we can assume he was suicidal so I guess it was an intentional and effective crash. I guess if you're gonna go, make it fun and don't endanger others, and I would argue he accomplished both these objectives. He seemed to have enough confidence in his ability he could at least get airborne and over unoccupied water. He didn't crash into populated areas as some might be inclined to do.

They were gonna shoot him down if he would have turned towards the population area.

Lol. They were lol. They scrambled two 15s immediately.
Guarantee he turns east, they blow him out of the sky.06driver Thanks this. -
Glad to hear the general disarray of folks we have on our payroll does not extend to the flyboys yet
Now if we could get some help on congress doing their ******* job. Maybe they can shoot them down??Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Everything you wanted to know about the turboprop he was flying, but was afraid to ask.
