Vickster, I cant answer your question as I dont know anyone with auto trans. Just want to say one thing. Please Please dont limit yourself to auto transmissions. I dont think alot of Co's have them.....maybe Im wrong, but I dont think so. Standard Transmissions are a piece of cake, and I hate to see you limit yourself to Auto's. Nothing more then a 5 speed pick-up flip a switch and do it all over...Good luck

Us Express is all auto and also the largest female fleet. The other two autoshift companies are flatbed... CT and Maverick. PAM and Trans-Am has some also.

Yeah, I know you're right. I may be going to Werner just because I'm having a hard time finding anyone that's hiring right now, and they have 9-speeds. They said it woudln't be a problem if it took a little longer getting used to shifting. I CAN drive one, but I'll definitely need some practice. I could have gotten into Watkins & Shepard too, until they found out that I was trained on an autoshift. Had I known that, I would have practiced on the manual truck when I was in school. What kind of trucking school would train people on the auto's??? Milan Express, I guess!! lol They probably do it intentionally so people will stick with them and drive for crap wages, knowing they'll have a hard time finding other places with autos.

That being said, do you happen to know anyone decent that's hiring recent grads at all, regardless of the truck type? I've heard good and bad about Werner, but more bad I think. I guess I won't know until I go somewhere. I gotta start somewhere.

Some companies have both auto and manual. I beleive Interstate has quite a few autos.

US Express isn't hiring for my area right now, but may be in beginning of March. Trans Am checked my app when I called and just said, "They didn't offer you a position." I haven't checked out CT or Maverick yet though. I think I've read that PAM runs mostly east coast.... that true? Thanks for the reply and advice!!

Thanks, I'll check them out too!! I'm actually willing to drive the manuals, but to find a company that's has training for recent grads is tough too. So far Werner is my best bet right now. I'm supposed to hear back from them tomorrow afternoon.

    Vicster,
Hey I hear ya I wrote to you earlier in the week my old man and I are in the same situatuation. Try Crete their training pay is one of the top. Swift will wan you to carry 75 lbs from a squat 3 lengths of a 53' trailer so i will be avoiding them. CR England has a long training period but i've heard they do'nt get ya home much. Although after that 1st 6 months you can move on to bigger and better. If you need any information from my end i'd be glad to let yo know what I have found as a student (wh an exerienced spouse).

Thank you!! I actually did apply with Crete a while back, and there were a couple of things on my DAC that I wasn't aware were reported and didn't mention on my app with them. They denied me partially or wholly because of it, probably thinking I was trying to hide it, which I don't blame them at all. I wasn't ticketed for what happened, nor did I receive a fine, so I assumed the incidents wouldn't be on it. Live and learn!! lol

I was contacted by a contractor for Fedex Custom Critical who said he was looking for a co-driver and he used to train for Werner. I talked to his boss today and did mention everything that was on my DAC, and he said that everything would be fine. I'll have to team with him until my husband gets 6 months solo experience, but I know I'll be trained well, and the pay in the end will be well worth the wait! Thanks so much for the reply and advice!!
