The bottom line is this...companies with 100's or even 1000's of trucks have been known to operate with a very low (if any) profit margin. They have been able to bid lower to get work then everyone else. In most cases, lower bid generally wins. In this economy, with so many operating with the same principle, the big boys are going to fall hard and fall first. What is the end result? A true market correction, and not an overall recession. Wages have not increased at the same rate of inflation. This has created a serious balance issue that is now in a corrective state. Plan for prices to fall because of supply and demand. Less money, less demand. Less demand, fewer jobs.
These big companies will feel it first, because they have a much smaller margin of error, removing them from the market will overall be better for the rest of us.zentrucking, The Challenger and Joetro Thank this. -
So, what are we really saying here? To hades with the thousands of drivers who work for these large companies? That's the sentiment I seem to be picking up. IF TMC goes under I'll come back here and be the first to admit I'm wrong, but I don't see it happening.
TMC also pays by mileage. It's the drivers choice as to which they prefer. -
It's also up to the driver to know which pays better in the long run. Ie. Cheaper freight = Cheaper drivers = company encouraging to go this way = company to make more of a profit
TMC allows drivers to switch after 6 months. I'd like to know if my assumption is true that the ones make more on mileage plan.

I DOUBT TMC is going bankrupt. They pay their drivers LOW wages so they can keep nice trucks...all they would have to do is continue low pay and take off the chrome and lights, etc...that would save them BILLIONS a year right there!

Just my $.02 -
TMC has always and will continue to be a family owned (privately owned flatbed)carrier. They started small and got bigger and is not a corporate conglomerate as stated above. The owner has stated more than once that he would close the doors before selling out. And of course most people would understand that with any business (not just trucking) the idea is to make money any way you can (the American Way!!!) Maybe slashing rates was one of the things to get into the area but in trucking customer service goes a long way. It is definately tough times in the business world right now and we haven't even seen bottom yet. Those days of having freight readily available is long gone and in my opinion don't know when it is going to pick up again.
