Mcdonalds or any other job that you can get around home.

If you read through the posts of all the students who have come before you in this past year the story is the same.

They are starving, not making enough to pay for life on the road ...never mind their obligations at home!

The market is saturated right now with experienced and students as it is, with some experienced guys having a tough time getting back into it.

Then you hear about those that do get jobs only to be running 5000 miles a month if they are lucky...

Take your time getting into this industry...

    Good luck with your decision

I'm planning on going to the D/S school myself in March. They seem to be a good school and i've heard good things about them. You may also want to check into Watkins Shepard out of Missoula Montana. I talked to them and was gonna go to their school but they had more out of pocket expenses than I could afford right now but the people I talked to were super nice and seemed really anxious to have me on board which is really suprising in this tight economy. There are several good threads on Watkins Shepard on here.:biggrin_25526:

Driver, life on the road aint cheap. Most major carriers will pay for your school provided you sign a contract to drive for them for one full year.leave before that and you pay for the school. As you have found out,cdl schools arent cheap.

Are you talking about 1pissedoffdriver ? He's been here a while and watched what happens to most people a few months after they check into Welcome Wagon . They either end up posting at the Report Bad Companies here forum or simply disappear . He's also seen posts by wives of U.S. Xpress lease operators crying their husband is in the hole at the end of the month . He's seen people crying about sitting unpaid at home for weeks after orientation waiting for an available truck that becomes available when somebody quits because they aren't getting enough miles to survive . He isn't trying to ruin anything for anybody . He's trying to prevent them from throwing away money they can't afford to lose . You're welcome to dispute this . Go to Welcome Wagon and find a few people that posted there a few months ago and now have recent posts telling what happy campers they are .

I am not going to dispute the fact that times are tough,I have been there myself. As an owner operator, how well I know that.I am one of the lucky ones who just runs local now for a decent boss that I leased my truck to.New drivers and old road dogs have it tough now.I understand his point of view and dont wish to cause any problems at all.
